Today students worked with their partners on their ads for voting. Homework: Read Chapter 7 sections 1-2 Quiz tomorrow in class. We covered how vote counting has developed, what the cost of a presidential election is, and who regulates the money of an elections. Today in class we continued discussing Chapter 7. Students were to watch for details in the court room, watch for example of due process, and watch the details of the jury. Today in class we watched a video that followed a real court case. He was very kind (even though he is a former Fowler Redcat 🙂 Also, one group was treated to a visit to Honorable Judge Corona’s chambers. The students learned a lot! They spoke with the Honorable Judge Chittick, visited many cases, and were given a demonstration by Sheriff’s (including shackling a student). Today we visited the Fresno County Superior Court. Lawyers will first prepare their case and practice with their witnesses. Parts include: lawyers, witnesses, defendant, bailiff, judge, and jurors. This week students began our class mock trial. Defense side is beginning their case and examining their witnesses. Today defense is finishing their case and both sides are giving their closing arguments. Today the jury is starting their deliberations. Today the jury came to their verdict (3rd found the defendant guilty and 5th period found the defendant innocent). We also watched a catchy tune about due process 🙂 Today we began to review the ideas about individual freedoms and the concept of due process. Today students reviewed the Chapter (in lieu of a chapter test) by completing the Chapter Review questions for Chapter 20. We then began notes on qualifications, salary, and other characteristics. Students brainstormed 10 words they would associate with State governments and we listed them on the board. Today we began to look at the composition of State governments. turn in a paragraph description about their initiative They will follow the same guidelines from the state of California, including a description of their law, handouts/brochures about their law, and gaining signatures to put their initiative on the ballot. Today students began creating their own initiative for people to vote on. Students continued to work on their initiatives. Student also completed work on their Initiative Presentations and their handouts/brochures.
